Moisture is the enemy of all solar modules, but it is especially important to avoid in thin film modules because the thin film photovoltaic devices (Cdte, a-Si, CIGS/CIS) are extremely sensitive to moisture causing widespread module failure. Traditional module encapsulants, such as EVA, leech acetic acid when exposed to moisture, destroying fragile PV devices and eroding electrical connections. With this failure in mind, we have introduced a non-EVA encapsulant, developed with Dow Chemical, that does not generate acetic acid.
